Quadriplegic Heroine
This patient came to us as a quadruple amputee following a medical incident that took away her limbs.
It started when she suffered an emergency while serving her students, was admitted to urgent care and was placed on vacipressors to help fend off the infectious antibodies flooding her system. While in the hospital, she developed an infection following pneumonia and her doctors recommended that to save her life, she would have to undergo a quadruple amputation of all four limbs.
Because of the severity of her case, multiple rehabilitation facilities rejected her application for treatment citing less than hopeful odds of her recovery. With her commercial insurance at a standstill and no recommendations forward, our therapy team stepped in, agreed to take on the case and began aggressive treatment.
The focus with this unique case, was to promote circulation and maintain range of motion, bone density, and muscle mass as she had developed weakness in her core after months of lying prone. With a variety of clinical rehabilitative procedures, we assisted this patient to develop strength in her core (to support 'sitting-up' and 'rolling-over' ranges of motion) so as to avoid pressure sores or edema while improving her blood flow and overall flexibility.

Her hard work, dedication and courage over our months-long treatment, helped boost her self esteem and mental health for the next stage of her recovery process and return to her modified activities of daily living.
